The Circuit
Making its debut in 2009, the Yas Marina Circuit was designed by Hermann Tilke and now stretches over 5.281km with 16 corners. It has been modified in recent years to aid overtaking opportunities, which has also made it faster in places, and remains a familiar location as we enter the final round.
Traction and braking can be higher than average here, especially as the grid comes to the end of the straights on offer including the 1.2km stretch between Turns 5 and 6. Tyre management, as ever, is important here with most teams opting for a two-stop during last year’s race. Pirelli, the championship’s tyre provider, also hosts a post-season test which will occur next week and is a great chance for us to get that final bit of data out of the car before we close up 2024.
Abu Dhabi has hosted the season finale for Formula 1 every year since 2014, in addition to having the honour for the 2009 and 2010 seasons too. During that time, the circuit has witnessed many champions being crowned including our very own Lewis and Nico.

Everything You Need To Know: Abu Dhabi
The final race weekend of the 2024 Formula 1 season is here, and there’s no denying that it’s going to be an emotional one. As well as reflecting on all our highs from the season to date, we will also be saying a fond farewell to one of our best: Sir Lewis Hamilton.
He’s won an outstanding 84 races with us as a constructor, 105 as an engine supplier, and we’ll certainly miss him as he starts a new chapter in his racing career. As well as his achievements on the track, he’s also played a huge part of our history off the track too.
Both Lewis and George will be aiming to end the season on a high, as the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix awaits us for one final race this season. It’s a place where we have had much success in the past with six wins, 14 podiums - the most of any constructor - and six special pole positions in Yas Island.
The 5.281km circuit has had some changes in recent years to help with overtaking, making it more fast and flowing for the drivers. As well as the 16 corners, there’s also a couple of straights including one that’s 1.2km long between Turns 5 and 6.
It also brings to an end to this year’s Formula 2 and F1 Academy campaigns. Kimi Antonelli will be hoping to end his F2 season on a high before he makes the step up to race alongside George at the team, as Doriane Pin looks to secure second place in the Drivers’ standings in F1 Academy.
Our Successes
Lewis holds the record of most victories around the Yas Marina Circuit, with five to his name.
His first with us came in 2014, when he not only took the win in a dominant display but also clinched his first Drivers’ World Championship with the Silver Arrows. Despite then team-mate Nico starting from pole, Lewis launched himself into first place before they reached Turn 1 and held the position until the chequered flag.
The year after it was Nico's turn, winning the race from pole position with Lewis making it our 12th one-two result that season – a record that still stands today.
After a close campaign between Lewis and Nico across the 2016 season, the Drivers' Championship was decided at the Yas Marina Circuit. Despite Lewis doing all he could with pole and the race win, team-mate Nico secured second place in the race and did enough to claim his first and only Drivers’ World Championship under the floodlights of Abu Dhabi.
We continued on our run of consecutive race wins thanks to Valtteri Bottas in 2017, with the Finn locking in his third career victory at the end of his first season with us. He dominated the weekend, with pole, fastest lap and the win which resulted in his first Formula 1 hat-trick!
Lewis once again added to his victory tally with first-place finishes in 2018 and 2019, resulting in us having six memorable wins in Abu Dhabi. During that time, we’ve also collected six pole positions as a team, and stood on the podium 14 times, which is the most of any team. Our most recent piece of silverware here came thanks to George, who finished in third last year and helped seal second place in the Constructors' fight.
